First SPACIOUS Scientific Results Presented at the EAS Annual Meeting!

At the 2025 Annual Meeting of the European Astronomical Society (EAS) in Cork, Ireland, Alfred Castro-Ginard presented the talk “Statistical modelling the Gaia DR3 selection function” – marking the first scientific results delivered using the SPACIOUS platform.

Modelling the selection function of the Gaia DR3 catalogue, which includes over 2 billion sources with more than 100 attributes each, exemplifies a truly data-intensive challenge. Alfred demonstrated the remarkable performance benefits of SPACIOUS, reducing runtime from 1 week to just 25 hours compared to traditional computing clusters.

Additionally, a general overview of the SPACIOUS project was featured in a poster presented by André Moitinho, further raising awareness of the platform’s potential within the astronomical community.
